khaki shift dress

Khaki dress... all set for a relaxed day out

December is the best time of the year, no matter what we always have a 100 excuses to feel happy (no matter how broke you get at the end of it!). Well my 101 excuse is my birthday. This will be the month of shopping over load, by the end of the month I'm forced to go into a shopping detox! The dress is an awesome must have, it's not about the military green but the awesomeness of the Khadi fabric used. Honestly the outfit made no sense to me when I wore it, but along with the union jack around my neck and the boots it triggered some mean girl kinda happiness. Strangely something bought a lot of union jack inspired outfits into the market, haven't you shopaholics picked up one yet? It's every where.

Plaid Jacket

Cosy up with Plaid

So winter is here! and it is freezing cold again. I couldn't think of a better companion to help me fight the cold. There is something about plaid, just the look of it keeps me warm. Also with this outfit I have to admit, amongst all my cloths, Van Heusen tops my choice of brands to pick from.

maxi skirt

Breezy days in a Maxi

Maxi skirts are the easiest DIY fashion project, you just need an extra large piece of fabric and an elastic for the band and your almost done. Yes I did fall in love with the print and I had to make it a project. after a long stretch of the exhausting festive season at work and not feeling well after that, I just needed to feel good about something that instantly cheers me up. Also with the military styles being in trend it only seemed right to pick on my jacket.

the new ugly

The UGLY trend

So what is the cause for the drift from neat sharp stilettos to chunky block heels, from neat light weight jewelery to the bold over sized awkward pieces, from Persian cats to the Sphnyx cat. I really don't know! I read a whole article about it in ELLE but it failed to make any sense. Its that tread report that drew me to this tee. It looked so perfect I had to get it! Now I'm not trying to look ugly, but for someone who was a printed T-shirt teenager in the 90's this outfit came together naturally out of instinct.

Work Wear #1

Dressed up for Work @ FabIndia

It's been only 6 months since I joined FabIndia, yet for some reason my HR thinks I would make a smart trainer. yup they sent me out to give product gyan to colleagues who have been in the system longer than I had. Now planning and execution of the training was not an issue, because I've have a reputation for good presentations. But my tiny build and noisy nature makes it difficult for  people to take me seriously! so I had to dress down a lot yet look like a by product of FabIndia. It seemed like a mammoth effort at first, cause all the pairings of cloths either made me look way too ethnic Indian (not like I wouldn't be able to carry it off!) or way off beat looking too stylish for the average FabIndian. However this paring came off beautifully becausse all my colleagues complimented the way I was dressed :)

navy stripes

Sid once said "Nita your a drama queen that hates drama!", He was bang on! My mom always said I contradict myself. May be thats because I try to see both side of the coin at the same time. I guess thats  why I can never wear a pretty dress and look pretty.

So I had to pair my pretty dress with some bold accessories. That necklace has been one of the best things in my wardrobe for a while, the perfect lion head with the bold chains seemed to naturally draw myself to it like a chemical reaction!

Neon

She's always buzzing just like Neon, Neon, Neon

I know I've expressed my dislike for jeans many times before but I've been hording cloths in my wardrobe waiting for a sunny day to wear some of them. That stupid fear of wearing a good outfit for the wrong occasion. When my friend so graciously requested my presence at the filming of her music video I was so flustered about what to wear. She kept saying come formally dressed! Oh gosh! of all the things people say. But I said hey! Not like it really meant anything because it was happening @ urban solace, now for such an amazing place how could anyone wear formals.

So finally when I opened my over cluttered wardrobe and found my neon top, I just had to wear it. There was something about the colour, I still remember the first time I saw a bunch of neon garments on one rail. That was a while back when I still worked for Maison, It was the happiest rail in the store. Of course I lied when I told everyone I could never carry it off. So When I found this @ soul sante I grabbed it with both hands.

So it took me a few more seconds to decide what to wear it with, naturally with the insufficient time at hand I chose to wear it with my skinny jeans and pumps (I know it such a typical cliche). So I paired it with a printed belt and over-sized clutch, also that ring I've been wearing to work almost every day. Amen! I was done...

Boots

These Boots are made for walking...

I love my boots. Makes me feel exotic, sensuous, super strong! Every girl loves her boots. Don't you? I know I wore this outfit only for the boots. There is something about  Knee length boots that make you feel tall (though mine could have been a little longer), or maybe they make us look stronger, either way there is something about the boots that has attracted women to them. Can you seriously name one super star that hasn't  worn a pair of boots in their career?

Wait I think all the things said before came from a pre-conditioning from the pop culture. What is the need to put women in boots all the time? Honestly I wear my boots for functional reasons. I live in a city where it gets really cold, also the monsoon makes the whole city murky and muddy, I think wearing boots makes my feet warmer, protecting it from the cold and rain. I remember my first pair of boots were the converse red canvas boots. I wore them every day until the sole got holes and that made my socks get wet. The worse day of my life was when I had to discard them (they were my prized possession!)

Boots are an extremely good accessory, you get used to it's protection and you will never give them up like an addiction. Also it makes a very bold accessory! I'm not just saying to satisfy my pre-conditioning. I've always been amused by knee length boots and how they make your legs look never ending.

The colour Blue #2

Printed Pants, My Personal Favorite!

It isn't quite easy being dressed up while growing up in a city that has a reputation for it's all denim dress code! Yeah, i'm not kidding. I had people visiting Bangalore asking me Why does everyone here wear denims? and why am I being stared at for being dressed up. I guess that follows the city's laid back culture, live and let live. The minute we spotted someone dressed up we could tell they are not from here :) But I've never really been a denim pant fan. I wholly dislike the denim Bangalore stereotype.

However this isn't about the whole I don't like denim session, I've really done that before! I love printed pant, they always seem to make me happy. They break away from the same old boring denims and trousers and make me feel light on my feet. I know it goes without saying may of us don't really like the tight fitted pants we wear, its all cool for a bit n then it just gets stuffy and uncomfortable. The first time I wore this my friend said "Nita I feel like I'm walking with a parisian" ;) But lets not get into that!

P.s. Guilty as charge these pants were from my blue fever phase and also the necklace. I can't deny it still lingers around to bite me again if it could but I'm over it, hopefully.

What about the shorts?

Let's just make this short!

Images courtesy lookbook

I'm not sure what to say, really! Shorts has become this trend with these young thing (as my ex boss always referred to youngsters) do they think it's a more decent way of showing how sexy they are. Seriously I think it's an over glorified piece of clothing. However, it is a comfortable outfit, and that's exactly why men wear it all the time! That's exactly why I wear them. I've never looked at shorts and said "hey! that's so stylish let's get it", having shorts in the wardrobe is a comfort obligation. Yet I'm sure most of you women get the oxymoron of the comfortable shorts!

Come closer, shhhh! For those who are not used to seeing me in oversized clothes, you should know I stole it from my brother. Poor thing I'm sure he doesn't even know it was meant for him, So on that bright shiny day when my mom was packing the bag of goodies to be shipped to my brother the shirt was handed over to me to be pressed! instead I wore it and paraded the house. Suddenly mom say "Why don't you just keep it!"

the colour yellow

It is criminal after over a month to be talking about how much I shopped in Delhi, so I won't! However it's never criminal to talk about the yellow ;) I do love every thing about yellow, how could you not like it too! I remember my first yellow acquisition was a yellow puma bowler bag, everyone would smile at the sight of it (Amused or annoyed, either ways they did!). Unspoken fact about yellow is that you can never wear it unless you consciously choose to be happy about life. It's too bright a colour to contain, it just naturally spreads happiness.

However this shirt however had the misfortune of being worn the first time to a hand block printing unit, but of course we were expected to do some of the block print ourselves! And like my track record goes I stained it with printing dye (FYI all my school uniform shirts had paint stains on them!). Although it was an awesome experience, and it never fails to remind me why I appreciate what Fab India does for Indian artisans.
So everyone out there, Especially you designers who understand the pain of making that one hand stitch or changing that one font, do feel free to patronize these products. If you don't the art will eventually become extinct, If not to mention pricey. Also for those of you who don't think these products are fashionable enough, do keep your eyes on my blog a lot more Fab India products will show up. P.S. its the side effect of working in a place where cloths are affordable!

Khaki or mustard? You decide

Easy Peasy

So it's been a while, but when I took these pictures they were just some test shots. I don't think I've figured out how to wear this shade of khaki, Its not a muted tone yet it is really bright and striking. Ok I know at this point you would think the mad cat took off. But there is something about this pant that I've not been able to put my finger on.

I know I'm saying khaki but it's really a shade of mustard, Yet I say khaki probably because the cat in my head is running in circles. It's been a while since I bought the pants, But I never seemed to figure out the colour. Hence never seemed to pair it with anything. Then one final day when I was staring into my wardrobe feeling like there is nothing to wear, I pulled out the pant and paired it with a cream top. Unhappy as always I pulled out all the black and whites only to end up with such a no fuss kinda ensemble! I've been very fussy when it came to buying floral print but this shirt seemed to ace my happiness!

After so many years of having extra long hair I'm so grateful to be able to make a bun ;) Forgive my childish excitement but I had to show off my first attempt at the bun. I'm still feeling like this post is an illusion, I was just up to my randomness when I took these pictures, the pairing came together like bread and butter. Hope you like the idea!

The colour Blue

The Blue Fever!

Since the past few months I've been on a spree buying blue. The blue shoes, the blue bag, blue accessories, blue etc... I've never filled my wardrobe with blue (except the denims), so I guess i'm having a blue phase, you know! when we keep buying the same colour in everything for no really reason. Its annoying sometimes when I keep doing it again and again with out really realizing it until after the product is billed. That's why I call it a fever, it happens from time to time and you won't realize your a victim, until after it's made you sick. I don't know what I was thinking when I put this outfit together. Maybe my brain decided it summer and by some logical default she put the ensemble together. I definitely have no explanation to my blue fever, most be my brains way of calming my hyper excited natural way of life.

Seriously! this isn't even the half of the blue I've bought. It did start with me buying the blue loafers, yet I know I should fill my wardrobe with all types of colours. So all hail to blue, any how Bangalore has become ridiculously hot, I hope the cool blues bring the temperature down!
